Sony announced its intention to increase worldwide PS4 shipments to 78 million in its forecast last year. Since then, the company has shipped 19 million units, which is a decrease of one million, year-on-year. Sony's fiscal results for the last financial year have been released and the company has confirmed that its worldwide shipments of PlayStation 4 consoles have reached 79 million.
For the upcoming fiscal year, Sony forecasts 16 million PS4 hardware sales, predicting a decrease of 3 million units from last year.

As hardware sales begin to wind down, Sony hasn't made any more comments regarding their next generation of consoles since Shuhei Yoshida said he was unsure if the PlayStation 5 would even be a thing.
The software side is looking much more positive, with an increase in sales of 18% year-on-year, as well as an increase in PlayStation Plus subscribers which contributed to the figure.
